War of Trade 1812

British Support

The Indians of the Northwest where being organized by the Great Indian chief Tecumseh, who traveled from the Great lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, in his efforts to unite the Indians  in an attempt to stop the Americans from expanding westward.

The American opinion was that the British in Canada where instigating and supporting the Indians in this effort. The British where concerned with the fur trade and the competition the United States was giving them. They wanted an Indian nation in the Northwest Territory to hamper American trade efforts. The western frontier was a more dangerous place for the scattered white settlements because of the British presents. People of the western states and territories felt that peace and safety would not be possible as long as Great Britain held Upper and Lower Canada.
